Highway College | Christian Private School in Pinetown, KwaZulu-Natal

Highway College is a small Christian private school that accommodates children from from age 3 in pre-school to Grade 12. Classes are small and pupils receive individual attention in a caring environment. We offer a variety of extra-curricula activities and there is a strong emphasis on pupils being encouraged to be unique individuals. Our educators and greatest assets, most of whom have been a part of the team for many years, have a professional, caring attitude in developing Christian character and giving children a sense of vocation.

The school, formally known as Highway Christian Academy, was founded in 1991 by Chris Barnard. His aim was to provide Bible based education for Christian families. The school followed the Accelerated Christian Education (ACE) curriculum but has for the last 12 years followed the mainstream CAPS curriculum.

Our Mission: Highway College endeavours to lay Christian foundations of Grace and Knowledge which enable young people to live and work in the world as ambassadors for Christ.

Our Vision: Preparing Christian ambassadors for the workplace.

Our Coat of Arms:

Highway College-Coat of Arms

Cross and Sword
The cross speaks of the sacrificial death of Jesus, paying the price for us and shedding His blood for the remission of our sins. As a Highway student I declare that I’m a bearer of the cross, declaring Jesus as my Lord and Saviour. The Sword is the sword of the Spirit, Word of God, who is Jesus. As a Highway Student I will commit myself to the reading and study of the Word of God to be equipped a workman worthy.

Dove
The dove represents the promise and provision of God when the dove was sent out from the ark and came back with a sign (the green twig). It also represents the Holy Spirit and the gifts of the Spirit. A dove has nine pen feathers on each wing. If you cut or pull a feather out the dove cannot fly. So to with the Holy Spirit. One wing represents the nine fruits of the Spirit and the other wing represents the nine gifts of the Spirit. We need a balance of the fruit and the gifts of the Holy Spirit to be effective witnesses. As a Highway student I will desire to walk in the fullness of the Holy Spirit, exercising the gifts of the spirit imparted to me to serve and be an effective witness for Jesus. I will trust God who is my provider.

Bunch of grapes
When the spies were sent out to check the land they found the abundance. Only two came back with a positive report carrying one bunch between two men. Again the promise of God’s provision if we will trust Him. The grapes also represent the nine fruits of the spirit. As a Highway student I will be a bearer of Good News and function in the fruits of the Spirit which are love, joy, peace, long-suffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, meekness and self-control.

Fleur-de-lis
The lily of the valley (Fluer-de-lis) is used as a symbol of purity and of servanthood. To be great in God’s Kingdom learn to be a servant of all. As a Highway student I will pursue holy things and keep myself pure. I will not defile myself with the things of the world. I will also learn to be a servant and follow in the footsteps of my Lord.
